Wojciech Wacław Albinski was born in Włochy, near Warsaw, Poland, in 1935. During World War II, he lost his father. In the 1950s, he wrote essays and poems for Współczesność and later for Kultura, a literary magazine in Paris. After graduating from Warsaw Polytechnic, he moved to Iraq and then to Paris. He finally settled in Geneva, Switzerland, for eight years with his wife, Wanda. They later moved to Botswana and South Africa, where he spent most of his life. His first book, Kalahari, was followed by others such as Achtung Banditen. These works became bestsellers and were nominated for and won various awards, including the Mackiewicz, Nike, Gdynia, and Wrocław prizes. Wojciech was buried in his family grave at Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw in 2015.
